Abstract

An analysis is made about the relationship between health and culture. A comparison is established between occidental medicine and traditional medicine and between their central figures: the medical doctor and the "curandero". The author discusses thc possibility of popular knowledge as an important source for psychological research. The conclusion is that health systems are pluralistic structures where modern medicine is only a component.
