Abstract

The book Rebel waters: Images of the struggle for water and justice in the Andes. A tribute to Julio García, prepared by Rutgerd Boelens and Rosario Parra, provides an integrative vision on the dimension of water in peasant societies. It explores, among others, its meanings, conflicts and the emergence of the mercantilist logic of water. The authors propose "intercultural legality" as a mechanism for incorporating demands and recognition of assessments, management systems and local authorities.

Author Biography

  • Julieta Lahud Vega, Pontifical Catholic University of Peru

    Anthropologist from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru with studies at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands. She obtained her degree with the thesis The sowing and harvesting of water: friction between local knowledge and the state technocracy in the face of climate change. The case of the Quispillaccta peasant community, Ayacucho. Her professional interests are related to the elaboration of sustainable development projects, climate change and adaptation projects based on local knowledge management. She is currently working in the research of topics related to the environment, such as political ecology, climate change and water scarcity.
