The postponement of yanantin: andinean love in Cielo de las vertientes by Macedonio Villafán

Abstract

This work analyzes Macedonio Villafán's novel Cielo de las vertientes, which is part of the Peruvian Andean narrative tradition. Based on the ideas of Mamani and Estermann, it studies the principle of complementarity that underlies the narrative and forms part of the Andean category known as yanantin: “yana” (help); “-ntin” (universality). The novel highlights the postponement of yanantin between the characters Juan and Flor.
