El espacio social de la ciudad de Trujillo (Perú) analizado a través de diferentes métodos

Resumen

El actual espacio social de la ciudad de Trujillo, Perú, está determinado en gran medida por la gran afluencia de migrantes que en las últimas 4 décadas han dado origen a una redistribución de las diferentes capas sociales. El presente artículo constituye un análisis detallado de la situación socio-espacial de esta ciudad, dando especial importancia al uso complementario de diferentes métodos de investigación (cualitativos y cuantitativos) a fin de aprovechar las posibilidades y ventajas inherentes a cada uno de ellos y permitir así un alto grado de validez y representatividad de los datos. En este sentido, tanto el método cualitativo como el análisis de correlación muestran claramente la disparidad socioeconómica entre el cinturón de barriadas en el norte de la ciudad y el distrito de Trujillo. El análisis a nivel de zonas censales permite también apreciar una fuerte heterogeneidad dentro del mismo distrito de Trujillo, donde resalta sobre todo la evidente disparidad entre la parte norte y la sur, así como también la situación particular de las zonas tugurizadas del centro histórico. Sin embargo, si bien a primera vista las barriadas puedan aparecer como una franja homogénea, el análisis cuantitativo demuestra que existen fuertes diferencias entre una barriada y otra, así como también se observa una gran heterogeneidad dentro de una misma barriada en lo que se refiere a aspectos sociales, morfológicos y funcionales.

The social space of the city of Trujillo, Peru, is largely determined by intensive immigration movements during the last four decades, which have caused a redistribution of its social classes. This article presents a detailed analyses of the socio-spatial situation of this city. It gives special importance to the complementary use of different research methods (qualitative and quantitative) in order to exploit their possibilities and advantages to allow a high degree of data validity and representativity. In this sense the qualitative method as well as the correlation analysis clearly show the socio-economic disparity between the squatter settlements in the northern part of the city and the district of Trujillo.

Furthermore the analysis based on census-tracts indicates an even strong heterogeneity within the district of Trujillo, with a striking disparity between the northern part and the southern, as well as a particular situation in the degraded areas of the historical center. However, even if at a first glimpse the squatter settlements appear as a homogeneous belt, the quantitative analysis has shown that there are big differences between one marginal district and the other, as well as within the respective squatter areas in regard to social, morphological and functional aspects.
