    Esther Jean Langdon was full professor in the Graduate Program in Anthropology at the Federal University of Santa Catarina until her retirement in 2014. Currently she is voluntary professor, CNPq researcher (level 1B) and coordinator of the National Institute of Research: Brazil Plural - IBP (CNPq/INCT) and the research network Health, Local Practices, Experience and Public Policy of IBP. She received her doctoral degree from Tulane University (US) in 1974, and since then she has realized research on shamanism, anthropology of health, oral literature, cosmology and performance. Since her arrival in Brazil, she has accompanied the development of the field of anthropology of health with particular emphasis on indigenous health and public policy.
