Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The proposed article has not been previously published, nor has been submitted to another journal.
  • The file submitted is in Microsoft Word format.
  • The text uses line spacing of 1.5, the font size 11, and italics are used instead of underline (except for website URLs).
  • The tables and figures are in where it belongs in the text
  • The text complies with the IMRD format (Introduction, Method, Results, and Discussion) and complies with the citation and reference format according to APA Standards, 7th edition.
  • Ethical considerations for the study are included In the Procedures section
  • The Letter of Authorization for Publication and Distribution is annexed. Click here to download the document.
  • The Original Work Form is annexed. Click here to download the document.
  • The manuscript cover page must include the following information: (1) Authors' first and last names in the agreed order of authorship, (2) Authors' affiliations, (3) Authors' email addresses, (4) Authors' ORCID links. In addition, the corresponding author must be indicated.

Author Guidelines

The submissions should be original work that are not currently being considered for publication by another journal. The content of the articles published in the Journal of Psychology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru is the sole responsibility of the authors.

The articles should adhere to the ethical principles for psychologists, as well as the code of conduct of the American Psychological Association (APA), including the amendments of 2010 (http://www.apa.org/ethics/code/index.aspx). Studies that warrant Informed Consent should specifically state so in the article and include the document in the annex.

The manuscript should be prepared following the standards of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA). The article length should be between 15 and 30 pages, written in TIMES NEW ROMAN with font size 11, line spacing should be set to 1.5.

The first page should include: (a) title of the article (12 words maximum) in bold type in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French; (b) complete name and institutional affiliation of each author; (c) a short biography, mailing address, and email address for each author as a footnote; (d) an abstract in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French(120 words maximum for each abstract); (e) key words in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French. American English is used in the translations.

All pages should be numbered in the lower right hand corner. Subtitles should be in bold type, and never capitalized. The first line of each paragraph should be indented using the horizontal ruler.

References should be inserted in the text (never as a footnote) and should be ordered alphabetically at the end of the manuscript under the subtitle References. The author should only list those references that were cited in the text and should not list additional references which have not been mentioned in the text. The following are some examples of references:

Book:

Mönks, F. J., Ypenburg, I. H. & Blumen, S. (1997). Our children are talented. Manual for parents and teachers. Lima: Fondo Editorial de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.

Last name, First initial. (Year). Title of the book in italics. Location: Publisher.

Chapter within an edited book:

Cueto, S. (2002). Breakfast in school and school performance. In E. Pollitt (Ed.), Consequences of malnutrition in the Peruvian school system (pp. 265-282). Lima: Fondo Editorial de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.

Last name, First initial. (Year). Title of the chapter. In first initial of the editor. Last name of the editor (Ed. If there is one editor, Eds. if there is more than one), Title of the book in italics (number of the volume if there is more than one, pp. first page-last page). City: Publisher.

Article in a scholarly journal:

Mantilla, C. & Sologuren, S. (2006). Criteria for evaluating efficiency: psychoanalytic, cognitive behavioral, and rational emotive psychotherapists, and psychoanalysts speak out. Revista de Psicología, 24(2), 223-266.

Last name, First initial. (year). Title of the article. Name of the journal in italics, volume in italics (year or issue), first page-last page.

*Note the use of hanging indentations for the lines after the first line of each entry in your reference list.

Tables and figures should be inserted in the text. The amount of tables and figures should be limited to the minimum number needed to properly explain the material. Tables and figures must follow APA style. 

The acceptance of a manuscript is determined by the written feedback of two members of the Editorial Committee who are experts in the subject area. If there is considerable disagreement between them, a third expert opinion is solicited. The manuscript is selected according to its theoretical or practical relevance. Generally, a rigorous description of the subject matter is considered before any methodological or epistemological criteria. Manuscripts are published in Spanish and English with the abstract in both languages.

It is suggested that authors and co-authors consider sending a new submission after three editions since their last publication in our Journal of Psychology, in order to promote diversity in our publications.

Concerning book reviews, only reviews of works that have been published at the most the year prior to the presentation of the document to the journal will be accepted.

The submission of manuscripts should be through the Journal's Open Journal System (OJS).
