Review Process

The Editorial Board of the journal Revista Kawsaypacha: Sociedad y Medio Ambiente, taking into account the Ethical Principles for Research established by the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP, 2011, articles 8-12), the principles of transparency and good practices in academic publishing established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the SciELO Guidelines to Best Practices for Strengthening Ethics in Scientific Publishing, and the guidance provided in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.), establishes the following process:

First step: Reception of contributions

All contributions submitted to be published in the journal Revista Kawsaypacha: Sociedad y Medio Ambiente, will be initially evaluated by the Editorial Committee to determine if they comply with the basic standards of the Journal, which includes the ethical standards of the Journal and the formal Guidelines for Authors. In case they do, they will proceed with the peer review process.

Second step: Evaluation and peer review (double-blind)

Reviewers are scholars and researchers, nationally and internationally recognized in their fields, and external to the Editorial Team; papers will be assigned according to their topics and expertise. Reviewers will work anonymously, and the authorship will also remain anonymous.

The research articles and the other contributions (considered by the Editors) will undergo a double-blind peer review to ensure its academic quality, appropriateness, and novelty.

Reviewers will consider the following evaluation criteria:

  • The title is consistent with the content of the article,
  • The article provides an original contribution to the knowledge of the topic,
  • It is well-structured, logical, and clear.
  • It presents synthetically the methodology, stating aspects such as research, participants, procedure, instruments, and data analysis technique.
  • It describes the results in a systematic, organized, and synthetic manner, showing the most relevant and original aspects of the research.
  • It develops a critical analysis of the most important findings of the research, its scientific relevance, and its limitations, along with recommendations for future studies, its implementation, or new lines of research.
  • It presents relevant and updated references.

Los revisores devolverán la ficha de evaluación con las sugerencias que crean pertinentes para los autores y/o para los editores y la selección de una de las siguientes calificaciones:

Reviewers will return their evaluation with suggestions and recommendations for the authors and Editorial Board stating one of these options:

  1. It is accepted to be published with no further amendments.
  2. It can be published; however, it needs some formal amendments (style, precision in some data or similar).
  3. It can be published with substantial amendments by the author. In these cases, the text requires a second evaluation.
  4. It is rejected.

If they merit so, they could return the manuscript with their comments, guaranteeing that are anonymous.

If the qualification is 2) or 3) the authors must send a new text within the specified deadlines by the Editorial Committee indicating clearly how and where the observations, recommendations, of the reviewer are included. In case of disagreement, the reasons of disagreement must be explained.

Once the final version is agreed between the editor, author and reviewers, the authors will be informed that the text is approved for publication.

Third step: Copy-editing

Upon acceptance, the manuscript will be copy-edited to improve writing, spelling, citation format, among others to meet the journal’s style standards. In this process, authors might be consulted to respond to any formal or content requests identified in this stage.

To finish this process, all manuscripts approved to be published are organized in the following issue of the journal and the layout is adapted according to the journal’s template. Once it has been formatted, each article will be sent to the authors for their validation.

Fourth step: Publishing and dissemination

Since number 10 (July-December 2022) the "publication in process" is applied, which allows articles that are validated by the authors to be published. Once the publication process of all the articles in the number has been completed, the complete version of the number is prepared.

As articles are published, the editorial team will promote and disseminate them in academic networks and ensure that they are properly incorporated into the indexes, databases, and repositories in which the journal is indexed.
