Abstract

Copper is a metal whose versatility has enabled its application in medicine, agriculture, and materials science. In nature, copper is available in the metallic form with an orange-red color and in copper compounds found in minerals. The metallic ions Cu(I) and Cu(II) enable biological functions such as cellular respiration. Besides, copper is used as a catalyst to obtain natural products and polymers.
