(A) Being in the City: Performing Arts Walk. Thoughts on a Practice-Based Research Artistic Project of Intervention in the Public Space

    Directora escénica, investigadora y profesora asociada del Departamento Académico de Artes Escénicas de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). Ha participado en diversas residencias y congresos artístico-académicos nacionales e internacionales. Ha recibido dos veces el Premio a la Producción Artística (ProArt) PUCP: en 2017, por su dirección de La multitud, del dramaturgo chino contemporáneo Nick Rongjun Yu; y, en 2019, por (Un) Ser en la ciudad: caminata escénica. Entre sus áreas de interés están el trabajo artístico en el espacio público, la etnografía sonora y de los sentidos, la performance para sitio específico y espacios alternativos, y la creación escénica interdisciplinaria. Es Master of Arts in Media Studies por la New School University de la ciudad de Nueva York, universidad en la cual obtuvo también el Certificate in Film Production. Es diplomada como actriz profesional por la Escuela de Teatro de la PUCP y bachiller en Ciencias Sociales con mención en Sociología por la misma universidad.

Abstract

(A) Being in the City: Performing Arts Walk is a practice-based research project of artistic, performing and interdisciplinary intervention in the streets of Downtown Historic Lima staged in 2018 and 2019. This article shares its conceptual and methodological starting points, centered in the academic discussion about the configuration of the cities and the urban space, in which we take side in the everyday practices and the interactions that they hold, as the axes that configure the city, as well as the performative turn, which values subjectivity in research processes. It also presents this project’s reflexive origin about the being as entity and action, and its research axes that explore dimensions linked to the artistic, performative and knowledge of the city aspects. Finally, it shares the artistic decisions and the creative results to which we arrived.
