Guidelines for Graphic Elements
Graphical elements accompanying the articles must have the following characteristics:
- Their presence must be justified argumentatively or scientifically. In other words, merely illustrative graphical elements will not be admitted.
- Graphical elements used in the manuscript must be explained or analyzed.
- All graphical elements must have a description included in the image caption, including the source and/or credits, and there should be a figure callout using the word "Figure" and the corresponding consecutive number. They should be sent separately in files named FIG1, FIG2, and so on.
- The use of images or other graphical material from third parties is allowed in the following cases:
- The graphical element must have been obtained through lawful means. For example, a screenshot from a movie streaming on platforms like Netflix is allowed as long as the material is on the platform and has been accessed lawfully, through a subscription payment. This element must be cited according to APA 7th edition standards.
- Authors have the express and verifiable consent of the authors of the reproduced graphical elements.
Photos and Illustrations
Photos and illustrations (with their respective numbering, scales, titles, or captions) must be sent separately, indicating in the text the corresponding location of each one. Remember that you must have the rights or authorization to use the material if it is not your own. If you have the material in digital form, make sure to meet the following requirements:
- It should have a minimum resolution of 250 dpi and a maximum of 300 dpi (in pixels/inch).
- It should be true to size or very close to the size of its application.
- It should be in .jpg or .png format. This information is provided by image editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop:
Tables, Graphs, or Diagrams
- Graphs and diagrams should have adequate original quality.
- The inner values of tables, graphs, or diagrams must be clearly defined.
- It is recommended to create them in Adobe Illustrator or Adobe InDesign, and then export them to .pdf, .jpg, or .eps for submission. Additionally, Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word can be used.
- If they are created in other programs, they should be exported to .pdf, .jpg, or .eps in their highest quality.
