Ethical Guidelines

Conexión is committed to achieving the highest ethical standards of publication, ensuring the quality and originality of the manuscripts included in each of its editions. The editorial team of the journal seeks to ensure an impartial and transparent process.

Conexión adheres to the ethical guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as well as the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú research ethics declaration (PUCP, 2011, articles 8-12). Below, we detail the responsibilities and actions in the face of misconduct by the different actors involved in the journal's publication process. Additionally, Conexión is committed to the protection of copyright for unpublished works through the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

AUTHORS

Editorial Guidelines

When submitting a manuscript to Conexión, authors declare that they have read the journal's author guidelines and are familiar with the editorial process followed for each incoming text. More information about the Author Guidelines can be found at this link.

Originality

The publication of manuscripts undergoing simultaneous evaluation by other publishers and/or previously published is not allowed.

Conexión employs plagiarism detection software as a filter to confirm the originality of submitted manuscripts. Any indication of plagiarism in any form is unacceptable and would result in rejection without the possibility of appeal. Additionally, the author cannot submit any article to the journal for a period of five years.

Graphic Materials Use (See Guidelines for Graphic Elements)

All graphic material included in the manuscript should preferably have the necessary reproduction permissions or should have been obtained from sources that disclose it lawfully (e.g., screenshots of works lawfully disclosed on streaming services). For more information on the use of graphic material in Conexión, refer to the following link: Guidelines for Graphic Elements.

Sources Administration

Whenever possible, sources cited in manuscripts should be accessible to readers. Authors should also ensure that primary sources collected by third parties and used as secondary sources, such as interviews or data collected by others, are reliable. Information collection methods must have the consent of the individuals involved and protect their identity.

Intelectual Property and Responsibility

Intellectual property and responsibility for the content expressed in texts published in Conexión must respect the intellectual property of its authors and third parties. If the manuscript has more than one author, the order of appearance of each author must be agreed upon beforehand and communicated to the journal. Additionally, any acknowledgment to people or institutions contributing to the manuscript that does not warrant co-authorship must be recognized. Omission of co-authorship, plagiarism, and similar acts that violate intellectual property will be sanctioned accordingly.

Authors of manuscripts submitted to Conexión must have downloaded, filled out, and submitted the Intelectual Property and Originality Formulary and the Authorship Responsibility Declaration (CRediT Taxonomy Formulary).

Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any conditions that may affect the impartiality and handling of information in their manuscripts. If any previously undeclared conflict of interest is found, the journal will take appropriate measures according to each situation, such as retracting the published text or suspending the evaluation process.

Changes in Published Manuscripts

Authors must notify the journal of any errors detected in their text after publication, as well as the necessary adjustments to correct them.

Actions Against Malpractice

In the event of any breach of the commitments described, the journal will contact those involved to clarify the facts or situations that occurred. Authors are responsible for providing the necessary information. Cases are treated individually and following COPE guidelines. Any sanction and decision regarding an ethical breach will be communicated in advance. Editorial Team decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

PEER REVIEWERS

Conflict of interest and Review Ethics

Any bias that may affect the neutrality and impartiality in the evaluation of the assigned text must be reported. Reviewers are expected to provide a constructive and assertive assessment, contributing to the editorial decision and maintaining the academic quality of the journal. Personal judgments, hostile or derogatory expressions, as well as any assessment based on nationality, religion, gender identity, political ideology, or other inferred characteristics from the reviewed manuscript, should be avoided.

Deadlines and Dedication

Agreed-upon deadlines must be respected. If the agreed-upon deadline is considered insufficient and could result in a superficial review, it should be communicated to the journal's editorial team, who will decide whether to extend it or assign the text to another reviewer.

Confidentiality

The content of the review and the assigned manuscript should not be disclosed or discussed with third parties or in public contexts. It should be used only for evaluation and not for personal or institutional purposes. We recommend destroying the assigned manuscript once the review process is completed. This process is confidential before, during, and after its completion. Reviewers must keep their identity confidential from the authors even after the assigned manuscript has been published or rejected.

Suggestions and Revisions

Recommendations compromising the neutrality and confidentiality of the review process should be avoided. In this regard, reviewers should refrain from suggesting that the authors of the manuscript refer to their own academic work. Recommendations contributing to the improvement of the article without compromising anonymity and confidentiality of the evaluation will be appreciated.

Research Ethics

Any irregularity or ethical concern detected in the assigned manuscript should be reported in the review delivered to the journal. This includes any type of plagiarism, inadequate handling of primary sources, data treatment failures, among others.

EDITORS AND EDITORIAL TEAM

Transparency

Our editorial team is committed to a transparent editorial process at every stage. Decisions made during the process are always based on our established standards and the evaluations of assigned reviewers.

Neutrality

Our manuscript reception filters and mechanisms are strictly based on compliance with our editorial standards and the academic merit of the texts, without discrimination based on origin, nationality, race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, political ideology, or others.

Plagiarism

Incoming texts are processed using anti-plagiarism software, and each report is thoroughly reviewed by members of our editorial team. Any indication of plagiarism will result in the automatic rejection of the manuscript, following communication with the authors. If, after publication, previously undetected indications of plagiarism are found, the text will be retracted following the guidelines provided by COPE retraction guidelines.

Peer Reviewer Selection

Our editorial team selects and invites reviewers for each text based on their suitability, parity, and neutrality. Reviewers carry out their work voluntarily and do not have employment ties with the journal.

Confidentiality

The editorial process is carried out in strict confidentiality, and members of our editorial team are committed to maintaining this confidentiality.

Conflict of Interest

The content of received texts will not be used by any member of the editorial team without the consent of the authors. Unreported conflicts of interest will receive sanctions following COPE guidelines.

Open Access

Conexión is committed to open access to our publications. As a non-profit journal, we do not charge Article Processing Charges (APCs), and reviewers do not receive financial compensation for their work.

Retraction

Our journal follows COPE article retraction guidelines for cases where article results have serious defects or are deemed unreliable, as well as instances of plagiarism or similar issues. Minor editions resulting from proofreading or typographical corrections are permissible; however, any significant modification will be executed following COPE guidelines.

Errors and Changes in Published Manuscripts

Any errors detected or changes requested in published manuscripts communicated to the editorial team will be evaluated before being corrected or modified. If necessary, the journal will publish an erratum if an author is responsible for an error and a corrigendum if the journal is responsible for an error.

Communication

The journal is committed to actively disseminating published manuscripts through our communication channels: website, social media, and email.

Archiving

The journal's archive will remain public and available, even if the journal or our publishing house ceases to exist.

Privacy and Protection of Personal Data

Neither the reviewers nor the Editorial Board of Conexión can use, quote, share, or disseminate the data or manuscripts being evaluated.

ATTENTION TO COMPLAINTS

The communication channel for complaints or similar matters is the journal's email: conexion@pucp.pe. Any complaint must be properly justified and will be addressed according to COPE guidelines and our editorial standards. Authors and reviewers should avoid communicating directly with members of the editorial team (director, editors, editorial board, or others) for these purposes.

Claims, complaints, or requests for information about review processes are subject to the following conditions:

  • The identity of reviewers or authors (as the case may be) will not be disclosed under any circumstances.
  • The competence of the reviewers will not be questioned.
  • The case evidence must be identified and properly substantiated.

If any authorship claim arises, the journal will act as a mediator between the conflicting parties, and deliberations will be based on each individual case.
