Abstract

In this paper, three different approaches to the interpretation of the history of psychology appplied to education are analysed. The contributions of reproduction theory, or institutional theory and of class-conflict theory to explain the development of competing views of the rclationship between psychology and education in Brazil are conveyed and evaluatcd. The paper concludes by stating that class-conflict theory is the model that best helps to explain the history of educational psychology in Brazil.
