In this paper, three different approaches to the interpretation of the history of psychology appplied to education are analysed. The contributions of reproduction theory, or institutional theory and of class-conflict theory to explain the development of competing views of the rclationship between psychology and education in Brazil are conveyed and evaluatcd. The paper concludes by stating that class-conflict theory is the model that best helps to explain the history of educational psychology in Brazil.Downloads
