Focus and Scope
THĒMIS – Revista de Derecho is a publication of the THĒMIS Civil Association. It publishes original and unpublished academic articles resulting from research on various topics related to law and legal studies. The journal accepts manuscripts from both national and international professionals and scholars whose contributions are of interest to the legal community, fostering a forum for discussion, information, and legal analysis.
The editorial evaluation of manuscripts is based on criteria of relevance, originality, and thematic pertinence, and includes an external double-blind peer review process. The journal is published semiannually, in February and August each year. THĒMIS is an open-access publication and does not charge any fees for article processing, submission, or publication.
History
The THĒMIS Association was officially founded on September 19, 1965, during a ceremony held at the Riva-Agüero Institute. Renowned jurists attended the event, including the President of the Supreme Court of Justice, Dr. Domingo García Rada, Dr. Ulises Montoya Manfredi, and Dr. Jorge Avendaño Valdez, as well as the deans of the Faculties of Law of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, together with distinguished professors and students.
The association emerged as an initiative of a group of students from the Faculty of Law of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), with the purpose of becoming active contributors to legal scholarship, promoting legal debate through research, and compiling high-quality documentation on the country’s principal legal issues. This purpose explains the choice of the Association’s name, since Themis was the Olympic goddess of law and justice in Greek mythology.
During the founding ceremony, Mr. Miguel Vela, the association’s first president, reflected in his speech on the values of discipline, academic rigor, and the spirit of self-improvement that laid the foundations for the creation of THĒMIS. Thus, from the very beginning, THĒMIS represented the union of a broad student potential committed to remaining at the forefront of the principal topics related to law.
