Abstract

Civil Law is the kind of figure that everybody knows about, but only a few understand. It is considered a basic legal institution, key tounderstand  the historical development of Law. However, discordant voices question the usefulness of Civil Law in front of the challenges from the contemporary world.
In this paper, written twenty years ago, the author introduces in a clear way the criticism towards Civil Law, as well as the threat of disappearance that hanged above it, and proposes solutions for Civil Law to transform and adapt it to changes, in order to avoid extinction.
