Peer Review Process

Articles and essays submitted to Educación undergo a double-blind peer review process conducted by national and international peers. Reviews, however, are evaluated by the journal's scientific committee.

Submitted articles and essays go through the following stages of evaluation:

1. Receipt and preliminary review of scope, editorial guidelines, and required documents.

The article or essay is received by the editorial team, which verifies that the submission includes the manuscript, author sheet, CRediT taxonomy document (if applicable), and declaration of originality. A preliminary review of the document is conducted to verify its originality using Turnitin software and to ensure compliance with all publication guidelines. If any aspects require attention regarding compliance with publication guidelines, the editorial team communicates with the authors to make necessary additions or corrections. It is important to note that the document will not be considered for evaluation if it does not meet all requirements outlined in the author guidelines.

At this stage, the editorial team may choose to reject a manuscript under the following circumstances: 

• It does not align with the focus and scope of the journal.
• It lacks academic rigor in writing and the expected methodological quality.
• It exceeds 25% similarity in the Turnitin software.

Manuscripts that do not adhere to the journal's editorial standards will be returned to the authors.

2. Peer Review Process 

Once the article or essay has passed the preliminary review, it is assigned to two expert evaluators in the manuscript's subject area, who must complete an evaluation form based on established criteria.

The reviewers may assess the article or essay in four different ways following their review:

• Recommended for publication: The article or essay may be published without changes or with minimal modifications (primarily formatting-related).
• Recommended for publication with minor revisions: The article or essay may be published after making slight changes (mainly related to the developed content) recommended by the reviewers. These improvements will be reviewed by the editorial team.
• Recommended for publication with major revisions: Authors may address the suggestions made by the reviewers. The text will undergo a second evaluation by the assigned reviewers to reach a final decision.
• Not recommended for publication: The article or essay requires substantial changes that prevent its publication in the journal.

In the second and third cases, authors must complete a correction form indicating the improvements made or justifying why suggestions or comments were not addressed.

The final publication decision for the article or essay occurs under the following circumstances:

• When it receives two approvals without any or with minor modifications.
• When it receives one approval with minor modifications and another with major modifications, and necessary corrections are made to the text. In these cases, it undergoes a second review by the reviewers, who provide the final decision.
• When it receives two approvals with major modifications and necessary corrections are made to the text. In these cases, it undergoes a second review by the reviewers, who provide the final decision.

The article or essay is rejected under the following circumstances:

• When it receives two rejections.
• When it receives one rejection and one approval with major modifications.

The article or essay is sent to a third decisive reviewer under the following circumstances:

• When it receives one rejection and one approval without any or with minor modifications. If approved by the third reviewer without any or with minor modifications, the article or essay will be published after the authors revise the text according to the reviewers' comments. If the third reviewer rejects or recommends major modifications, the article or essay cannot be published and will be communicated back to the authors. 

In all cases, authors will receive evaluation forms from each reviewer containing assessments, comments, and suggestions. If applicable, they will receive a correction form that must be submitted along with the revised manuscript for a second review.

Reviews are evaluated by the editorial team or scientific committee of the journal. If approved, they will be published after necessary modifications. If rejected, they will not be published by the journal.
