Ethical Standards
Our journal Educación adheres to the guidelines developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Publication and Authorship
The electronic address for Educación, a journal published by the Academic Department of Education at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, is: http://revistas.pucp.edu.pe/educacion, with email addresses: revista.educacion@pucp.pe and bdiaz@pucp.edu.pe. The editorial team consists of an editor and an editorial board composed of doctoral professors from various internationally renowned universities. Additionally, it receives support from the University Editorial Fund for its publications and a group of specialists in educational topics who evaluate the articles submitted for publication.
Manuscripts submitted to the journal must be original and unpublished and should not undergo simultaneous evaluation processes by other publishers. If an article is accepted, publication in Educación must precede publication in any other journal. Should the author(s) wish to publish the article elsewhere, they must ensure that the subsequent publication includes acknowledgment of its original publication, following authorization from the journal's editor.
In maintaining integrity and transparency, the journal provides publicly accessible guidelines for authors, which include instructions for submitting articles, essays, and book reviews, along with publication norms.
Author Responsibilities
Authors are required to submit their manuscripts to the following email addresses: revista.educacion@pucp.pe and bdiaz@pucp.edu.pe within the deadlines established by the journal and in accordance with the publication guidelines. By submitting their manuscripts, authors acknowledge and accept that they will undergo the peer review process under a double-blind review format.
The content of articles published in Educación is solely the responsibility of the authors. However, the editorial team ensures that the criteria for quality and rigor in research are met through the double-blind peer review process.
Authors must explicitly declare that the manuscript is their original work and that information and references to previous publications are correctly identified with appropriate credits included in direct quotations and bibliographic references. Furthermore, authors confirm they have obtained permissions from respective authors where required. In the event of plagiarism being identified, the article will be rejected, and the author will not have another opportunity to submit an article to Educación.
In cases where there are two or more authors, the responsibility of each author in the research process must be disclosed according to the taxonomy of roles in academic collaboration (CRediT) [See CRediT taxonomy].
Authors of articles accepted for publication grant Pontifical Catholic University of Peru the right to publish, reproduce, edit, distribute, display, and communicate the articles as many times as deemed necessary, both within and outside of Peru, through print and electronic media, CD-ROMs, internet, and any other medium. This authorization is granted through the signing of the Declaration of Originality. In this document, authors certify that the text is original and their own, and that they respect the intellectual property rights of others.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
The journal editor serves as the initial filter for a manuscript, applying evaluation criteria such as quality, relevance, format, and adherence to the journal's publication guidelines. A second filter is the peer review process through double-blind review. The outcome of this process is communicated to the author.
Reviewers are selected by the editor based on their academic quality, competence, and expertise in the subject under review. Reviewers do not receive any payment for their work.
The proposed reviewer has an obligation to inform the editor of any conflicts of interest or if they have limited theoretical or methodological competence to evaluate the manuscript.
Peer reviewers use the evaluation form created by the journal for this process, and the outcome is communicated to the author so they can incorporate suggestions, changes, or missing information. Reviewers are responsible for approving, approving with minor or major revisions, or rejecting the article. Reviewers are expected to provide an objective report using positive language. Comments on the text should demonstrate constructive and well-argued criticism of the decision made.
Reviewers must ensure confidentiality and not share or discuss the content of the manuscript with anyone else. They should uphold integrity and impartiality in assessing the manuscript, avoiding personal or professional opinions, and deliver the evaluation report promptly.
Editorial Responsibilities
The editor and the editorial board of the journal continually define and review editorial policies that uphold the standards positioning the journal within the academic community.
The journal editor is responsible for the quality, confidentiality, and transparency of processes from manuscript submission to publication and dissemination. They implement mechanisms to ensure the rigor and originality of manuscripts.
Throughout the evaluation and editing process, the editor will consult authors regarding any doubts, questions, or concerns related to the article. Communication occurs via email with the corresponding author.
After the publication of each journal issue, the relevant university bodies will disseminate and distribute it among collaborators, reviewers, and entities with whom they have exchange agreements. Additionally, it will be disseminated in repositories, national and international indexing systems, and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter).
Unethical Practices and Ethical Violations
Authors must avoid the following unethical practices or ethical violations in publication:
- Simultaneous submission of the manuscript to another journal.
- Multiple publication (published in another journal or published in another language in another journal) or fragmented into various publications.
- Failure to include all responsible authors of the publication or inclusion of "ghost" authors who have not participated in the research.
- Inadequate disclosure of conflicts of interest.
- Plagiarism in all its forms and self-plagiarism.
- Lack of honesty in the information provided (institutional affiliation, data collected, bibliographic sources, among others).
