Abstract

Introduction: Why to study the Archaic Period in Perú?

This introductory ?paper provides the historical background for studies on the Archaic Period in the Central Andes, its internal problems concerning chronology and theory building as well as an outline of the basic arguments for the necessity and justification for further investigations in order to reveal the reasons of the advent of intensive agriculture, pastoralism and civilization.
