This research analyzes the narrative construction of Rafael López-Aliaga’s political image during the first round of Peru’s 2021 presidential elections, amid a context of multiple crises and 18 candidates competing for the popular vote. López-Aliaga, an engineer and businessman, positions himself as a “new” and anti-establishment candidate and as a defender of conservative values (family, God, and country). He presents himself as the leader of a “popular Christian right” that promotes “political ecumenism,” uniting Catholics and Evangelicals in defense of family and life against the progressive left, which would seek to impose “gender ideology.” He leverages his profile as a pragmatic businessman, combined with a disruptive and politically incorrect style. The analysis examines multimodal content on his Facebook account published between March 1 and April 10, 2021.
