Cuban Itineraries. The Archive as Revelation

Abstract

Tracing genealogy and uncovering lifelines are crucial tasks of feminist literary criticism and historiography. In this article, we will explore specific moments in the lives of Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, Juana de Ibarbourou, Ofelia Rodríguez Acosta, Rosa Arciniega, Dulce María Loynaz, Gabriela Mistral and Camila Henríquez Ureña, using archival documents. Our major interest is to expose the possibility the archive offers to discover certain vital signs of the relationships between women authors, not only collaboratives ones, but also disencounters, sometimes insourmontable. More than the “genealogías peregrinas” Jean Franco proposed onces, here we talk on certains “lateral genealogies”, electives ones, that archival documents get unveiled.
