Abstract

This paper analyzes motion events in the Yaqui language, with a particular focus on the encoding of the semantic component of path. In this way, it seeks to demonstrate that this language employs a dual path-framing strategy in the expression of motion events, as its constructions display features of both verb-framed and satellite-framed languages. This behavior is evidenced when a single event encodes the semantic component of path within the verbal root of a motion verb while simultaneously exhibiting path satellites. Furthermore, we will show that in certain cases, path is expressed in a complex manner, occupying up to four grammatical positions within a single motion construction.
